Fact about Export Compliance; once the exporter has made an error, it cannot be corrected. US trade control laws, regulations, and procedures can present a daunting challenge to experienced global corporations and a disconcerting obstacle to small and medium-sized exporters. Because of the costs of noncompliance can weaken, disrupt and cripple your organization, compliance with US trade controls is smart business. BIS strongly recommends that exporters of all sizes establish an Export Management System to ensure that their employees are aware of the regulations and follow a documented procedure for each export transaction. The burden placed on the exporter for maintaining export control compliance:

• Accurately identify end users/uses.
• Properly document the exportation.
• Screen all customers.
• Make a license determination.
• Obtain approvals from BIS or other government authority on certain goods.
